Join us for the closing week of the exhibition KYIV TO PRAGUE by Ukrainian artist Andrii Volkov. These artworks, traveling from Ukraine's turbulent capital to the bohemian city of Prague, reflect the artist's personal experiences since the invasion of his country.
Due to wartime restrictions, Volkov could not attend the opening. We now invite you to view his evocative paintings, rearranged by the artist and displayed together for the last time, and explore these moving reflections on a challenging time.

Aia Contemporary presents the solo exhibition, Kyiv to Prague – A selection of works by Ukrainian artist Andrii Volkov.
Stretching the raw materials of his surroundings and giving prominence to the beauty of simple things oft-overlooked, Volkov’s works are concerned with expressing a current emotion, with each painting acting as a portal to understanding a moment in time.
“These paintings allow me to be sincere with myself and in front of you as the audience because I share what I genuinely go through and experience. I don’t alter the results of what comes out. And it’s important to me that people understand that. The pieces might not always turn out pleasant or beautiful, but my focus is not on creating decorative art. Rather, I aim to create something that has sincerity.”
This collection of paintings was created during the invasion and subsequent war in Ukraine. They have travelled to Prague and are displayed here together for the first time.

Napíná materiály ze svého okolí a vyzdvihuje tak krásu věcí obyčejných a často opomíjených, Volkovova tvorba se zaměřuje na emoce přítomnosti, kde každé dílo funguje jako portál k pochopení okamžiku v čase.
“Tyto malby mi umožňují být upřímným k sobě i k vám jako svému obecenstvu, protože sdílím přesně to, čím skutečně procházím a co zažívám. Neupravuji výsledek toho, co vznikne. A je pro mne důležité, aby to lidé chápali. Má díla se možná někdy neukáží jako příjemná či krásná, mým záměrem ale není vytvářet dekorativní umění. Raději se snažím o vytvoření něčeho upřímného.”
Tato sbírka maleb byla vytvořena během invaze a následné války na Ukrajině. Sbírka cestovala do Prahy a je zde vystavena poprvé pohromadě.
